The round Miljøsenter (Round Environment Center) is a research institute on the western Norwegian island round . The newly built environmental center was opened on October 1st, 2009 by Fylkesordførar from Møre og Romsdal Olav Bratland.

Research areas

The main task of Runde Miljøsenter is to provide infrastructure for environmental research and education. The environmental center offers researchers from various scientific disciplines such as biology , oceanography , geology , meteorology and environmental sciences research opportunities. In addition, the Runde Miljøsenter researches in the field of energy generation from the sea such as tidal and wave power plants and eco-effectiveness (Cradle to Cradle). Such a wave power plant was installed off the island of Runde for research purposes in September 2009, but had to be shut down and dismantled again after a short time due to technical problems.

Information center

An information and education section is to be set up for visitors and tourists to provide information on current research activities. Exhibitions on the environment, climate, biodiversity of the island and marine resource use are planned. Another exhibition is dedicated to the Dutch East India sailor Akerendam , who sank before Runde in 1725 . Some of the exhibits from the Bergen Maritime Museum will be shown .

The Miljøsenter also offers space for courses, conferences and seminars of all kinds.

In April 2013, the imminent bankruptcy of the Runde Miljøsenter could be averted with public funds.
