Gottfried Christian Rothe (* 1708 in Bombeck in the Altmark ; † April 25, 1776 in Salzwedel ) was a Lutheran theologian and general superintendent of Pomerania .

The life and work of Gottfried Christian Rothe is - in comparison with the other general superintendents of Pomerania - somewhat in the dark. He first studied theology at the University of Halle an der Saale, then medicine and finally theology again.

Rothe received his first pastor in his home town of Bombeck. In 1750 he became an inspector and pastor at the Church of St. Katharinen in the Neustadt of Salzwedel. In 1756 he took over the office of general superintendent of Altmark and Prignitz and also became inspector of the diocese of Stendal and chief preacher at the St. Nikolaus cathedral in Stendal.

On February 8, 1758, Gottfried Christian Rothe was appointed general superintendent in Western and Western Pomerania, and in 1759 he took office in Stettin as the successor to Johann Gottfried Hornejus . During his 16-year tenure in 1769, he became known beyond the borders of Pomerania for the publication of a manual for preachers.

In 1775 Rothe retired and died a year later at the age of 68. He was succeeded by Friedrich Christian Göring .

Rothe was married to Margarete Elisabeth Windhorn.
