Location of Osterwohle in Saxony-Anhalt

Osterwohle is a village and part of the Hanseatic city of Salzwedel in the Altmarkkreis Salzwedel in Saxony-Anhalt .

geography

The Altmark street village Osterwohle is located about 10 kilometers west of Salzwedel on Easter Wohler ditch which flows north into the Old Stupid.

Local division

The districts of Osterwohle, Bombeck , Groß Gerstedt (with the Wolfsmühle residential area), Klein Gerstedt and Wistedt belong to the village of Osterwohle .

history

The first documented mention comes from the year 1247 when a chaplain of the archdeaconate de Osterwalde was mentioned. According to the Landbuch der Mark Brandenburg from 1375, Osterwohle consisted of four free farms . Other mentions are: 1430 im Dorpe tho Osterwolde , 1478 to dem osterwolde , 1541 Ostrowolt , 1687 Osterwolde and 1804 Osterwohl .

Castle and estate

The village was the main town in the Osterwalde district , which was protected by a fort . The area was densely wooded, which is why the castle was called "the Osterwald". Paul Grimm described the location of the castle in 1958. On a map from 1735, three parts of the castle can be seen in the formerly damp terrain at the south and south-east corner of the village, which are east and south of the church and are all surrounded by connected moats.

A knightly family from Osterwalde was first mentioned at the end of the 12th century, but they soon moved to the Stargard region. In 1430, the von Bodendiek received permission to repair the castle and the ramparts under the condition that the town of Salzwedel would not be adversely affected.

But as early as 1478 they sold Burg and Wall to the von Jeetze, who soon sold it again to the Verdemann family. These leased it only to Fritz von der Schulenburg († 1510 9th generation of the noble family), which is entirely received after the death of Canon Ludolf Verde man from Hildesheim and from the electors I. Joachim and the Margrave Albrecht in 1499 with the castle fief was . He and his descendants acquired the farms. This resulted in Gut Osterwohle with the 538 hectare forest Trippleben.

The estate was owned by the Schulenburgs until the land reform in 1945 . The last owner was Werner Graf von der Schulenburg-Beetzendorf (* 1908; † 1979, forester and pastor, 21st generation), a grandson of Werner von der Schulenburg . Until 1945 the agriculture was to a Dr. Martin Lampe, who was arrested by the Soviet occupation forces ( NKVD ) in January 1946 and died in special camp No. 1 in Mühlberg . Parts of the manor house, a former moated castle from the 12th century, are still preserved.

During the land reform in 1945, the following were recorded: an estate with over 100 hectares of land has 508 hectares, 25 properties under 100 hectares had a total of 212 hectares. The church was 14 hectares. In 1946 the 508 hectares were expropriated from the manor and divided among 267 settlers. Among them was the property of Dr. Lamp with 189.7 hectares, apparently part of the Schulenburg manor. In 1952 the first type I agricultural production cooperative was established, the LPG "Justus Liebig", which in 1960 was merged with LPG Bombeck and Wistedt to form the large LPG "United Land".

First mentioned in 1022

The documents from 1022 on foundations of Bishop Bernward von Hildesheim are considered forgeries. In the documents it says: in pago Osterwalde .

Incorporations

On September 30, 1928, the Osterwohle manor district was merged with the Osterwohle rural community. The Rothenwohl forest guard and the Trippleben sheep farm belonged to the estate.

On July 1, 1950, the previously independent municipality of Bombeck was incorporated into the municipality of Osterwohle from the Salzwedel district . On July 25, 1952, the municipality was reclassified from the Salzwedel district to the Salzwedel district . On October 1, 1972, the communities of Wistedt and Gerstedt from the Salzwedel district were incorporated into Osterwohle. The community of Gerstedt, formed on October 1, 1939, was thus dissolved and its districts of Klein Gerstedt and Groß Gerstedt (with the Wolfsmühle residential area) came to Osterwohle as districts. The Osterwohle community came to the Altmarkkreis Salzwedel on July 1, 1994 .

By the end of 2009, Osterwohle formed an independent municipality with the districts Bombeck, Groß Gerstedt, Klein Gerstedt, Wistedt and the Wolfsmühle residential area and was a member of the Salzwedel-Land administrative community .

By means of an agreement to change the area, the municipality council of the municipality of Osterwohle decided on July 30, 2008 that the municipality of Osterwohle should be incorporated into the Hanseatic city of Salzwedel. This contract was approved by the county as the lower local supervisory authority and came into effect on January 1, 2010.

After the previously independent municipality of Osterwohle was incorporated, Bombeck, Groß Gerstedt, Klein Gerstedt, Osterwohle and Wistedt became districts of the Hanseatic city of Salzwedel. For the incorporated municipality, the local constitution was introduced according to §§ 86 ff. Of the municipality code of Saxony-Anhalt . The incorporated community of Osterwohle and the future districts of Bombeck, Groß Gerstedt, Klein Gerstedt, Osterwohle and Wistedt became part of the receiving Hanseatic city of Salzwedel. A local council with five members, including the local mayor, was formed in the incorporated municipality and now the village of Osterwohle.

Main article: Osterwohle village church

The core of the church in Osterwohle probably dates from the 13th century. The unique village church was built in 1607–1621 in the Mannerist style, which is very rare in Germany, by Oleke von der Schulenburg, b. of balances, rebuilt and equipped with their private money. “As a widow, Oleke had the simple village church built in Osterwohle, which is one of the most important in the Altmark because of its valuable artistic furnishings ”. The carvings made by several masters before 1621 are particularly remarkable. In the church there are tombstones and an epitaph of Georg von der Schulenburg and his wife Anna von Veltheim, Schulenburg.
