geography

The small street village of Sienau is located about five kilometers south-southeast of Salzwedel in the north of the Altmark . The Jeetze flows east of the village .

history

In 1309 a Thidericus Cynou was mentioned in Salzwedel. Shortly afterwards, in 1347, two citizens were named in Salzwedel: Johannis de cynowe et Arnoldo dicto lunigh, ciuibus in soltwedele .

According to the historian Peter P. Rohrlach, it cannot be said with certainty whether these people have a connection to Sienau or Zienau .

The first mention of the village of Sienau comes from 1573 as Sinow in a document in the Brandenburg State Main Archives . There were three hoppers in the village . The document says: Do not have a church, go to Church in Brewitz, pastors and sextons only receive the four-time penny. Alemann has a piece of land. Other mentions are 1608 Zinow , around 1650 Zienow, 1687 Zienow , 1804 Zienau , and 1873 Sienau .

Incorporations

On July 1, 1950, the communities of Sienau and Kricheldorf in the district of Salzwedel were merged to form a community called Krinau . On July 25, 1952, Krinau was reclassified to the Salzwedel district . On March 1, 1974, the municipality of Krinau was incorporated into the city of Salzwedel. Krinau was thus dissolved. Sienau and Kricheldorf became districts of Salzwedel.
