Groß Gerstedt belongs to the village of Osterwohle and is a district of the Hanseatic city of Salzwedel in the Altmark district of Salzwedel in Saxony-Anhalt .

The Altmark village of Groß Gerstedt, a round square village extended to the north with a church on the square, is four kilometers west of Salzwedel. In the south flows the Salzwedeler Dumme , on which the associated Wolfsmühle residential area is also located. Neighboring towns are Böddenstedt , Klein Wieblitz and Klein Gerstedt .

history

In the Landbuch der Mark Brandenburg from 1375 the place is listed as Gerstede magna with 10 Hufen land. The mill belonged to the Diesdorf monastery . Other mentions are 1491 Dudeschen Gerstede , 1494 in the dorpe to groten gerstede , 1600 Große Gerstedt , 1687 Grossen Gerstedt and 1804 Groß Gerstedt .

Incorporations

Groß Gerstedt used to be an independent municipality in the Salzwedel district . On October 1, 1939, the municipalities of Groß Gerstedt and Klein Gerstedt merged to form the municipality of Gerstedt . When the municipality of Gerstedt was dissolved by incorporation in Osterwohle on October 1, 1972, the district of Groß Gerstedt became part of Osterwohle.

Until the end of 2009, Groß Gerstedt with the Wolfsmühle residential area belonged to the Osterwohle community and was a member of the Salzwedel-Land administrative association . When Osterwohle was incorporated into Salzwedel on January 1, 2010, the Groß Gerstedt district became part of the town of Salzwedel and the new town of Osterwohle.

The Protestant parish of Groß Gerstedt used to belong to the parish of Bombeck. Today the Protestant Christians from Groß Gerstedt belong to the parish of Osterwohle-Dähre in the parish of Salzwedel in the Provostspengel Stendal-Magdeburg of the Evangelical Church in Central Germany .

Culture and sights

The Protestant village church Groß Gerstedt, a small late Romanesque field stone building , is a branch church of the parish in Bombeck .
The local cemetery is in the churchyard.
Next to the church in Groß Gerstedt is a square stone memorial for the fallen of the First and Second World Wars.
