In the administrative community of Salzwedel in the Altmarkkreis Salzwedel in the northwest of the state of Saxony-Anhalt , nine municipalities were united. The administrative community was dissolved on January 1, 2011.

The administrative community originally consisted of the 21 communities Altensalzwedel, Benkendorf, Binde, Chüden, Henningen, Kaulitz, Klein Gartz, Kuhfelde, Liesten, Mechau, Osterwohle, Pretzier, Püggen, Riebau, Seebenau, Siedenlangenbeck, Steinitz, Tylsen, Valfitz, Wallstawe and Wieblitz -Eversdorf . On January 1, 2005, the seven municipalities Badel, Fleetmark, Jeggeleben, Kerkau, Rademin, Vissum and Zethlingen from the dissolved Altmark-Mitte administrative community were added. The community of Benkendorf was incorporated into Salzwedel on January 1st, 2009. On July 1, 2009, the communities of Kuhfelde, Püggen, Siedenlangenbeck and Valfitz were merged to form the new community of Kuhfelde . The communities Wallstawe and Altensalzwedel changed to the administrative community Beetzendorf-Diesdorf .

The municipalities of Binde , Kaulitz and Kerkau were incorporated into the city of Arendsee (Altmark) on January 1, 2010 and thus left the administrative community. The municipalities of Chüden , Henningen , Klein Gartz , Liesten , Osterwohle , Pretzier , Riebau , Seebenau and Tylsen , which were incorporated into the town of Salzwedel , were also eliminated . Kuhfelde moved to the newly formed community of Beetzendorf-Diesdorf . This reduced the number of member communities from 22 to 9.

The seat, but not a member of the administrative community, was the Hanseatic city of Salzwedel .
