Vissum is a town and part of the town of Arendsee (Altmark) in the Altmarkkreis Salzwedel in Saxony-Anhalt .

geography

The Altmark Kirchdorf Vissum located eleven kilometers southwest of Arendsee (Altmark) and 14 kilometers southeast of the county town of Salzwedel. The Klunkergraben flows in the south and west.

Local division

The districts of Vissum, Kassuhn and Schernikau belong to the village of Vissum .

history

On August 14, 1289, Vissum was first mentioned in a document as villa Vissim , when Arnold von Bodenstede provided his daughter with lifts from Vissum and Rademin for the Arendsee monastery .

In the Landbuch der Mark Brandenburg from 1375 the place is listed as Vischim or Vischun depending on the transcription of the manuscript . Half of the village belonged to the provost of St. Spiritus in Salzwedel, the other half to the Chüden family in Salzwedel.

North of the village at the intersection to Klein Gartz , there was a windmill to the left of the road in the 20th century .

Incorporations

On July 1, 1950, the previously independent municipality of Kassuhn was incorporated from the Osterburg district. The community of Schernikau was added on March 15, 1974 from the Osterburg district .

On January 1, 2011, the municipality of Vissum was incorporated into the town of Arendsee (Altmark). At the same time, a village Vissum was formed in the unified municipality of Arendsee (Altmark) with the districts of Vissum, Kassuhn and Schernikau.

The Protestant parish of Vissum belonged to the parish Ladekath until 1821, then to Klein Garz. Today the parish belongs to the parish of Salzwedel-St. Georg of the parish of Salzwedel in the provost district of Stendal-Magdeburg of the Evangelical Church in Central Germany .

Culture and sights

  • The Protestant village church Vissum is a late Romanesque field stone building . The church has been a subsidiary of the church in Klein Garz since 1821, before it belonged to Ladekath.

societies

The Vissum natural heritage association, founded in 2007, deals with the new planting and maintenance of avenues and orchards, the creation and maintenance of nature trails and thus with the provision of education in the field of the environment.
