Genzien is a district of the locality and unitary community of the city of Arendsee (Altmark) in the Altmarkkreis Salzwedel in Saxony-Anhalt .
geography
The Altmark church village of Genzien is east of the Arendsee and 25 kilometers east of the district town of Salzwedel on the B 190 . To the north is Faule See, which is drained by a system of ditches.
history
The first documentary mention of Genzien is the mention of Ghentzin in 1349, when von Garthow left possessions in the village to the Arendsee Monastery . In the Landbuch der Mark Brandenburg from 1375 the place is listed as a gensin .
In the south of the village there was still a windmill south of the railway line in the 20th century .
Incorporations
On July 1, 1950, the municipality Gestien was incorporated into Genzien. On July 25, 1952, the community of Genzien from the Osterburg district was incorporated into the Seehausen district. On July 2, 1965, the community was reclassified to the Osterburg district . On December 1, 1973 Genzien was incorporated into the town of Arendsee (Altmark). Thus Genzien and Gestien became districts of Arendsee.

The Protestant parish of Genzien originally belonged to the combined parish of Genzien ( mater combinata ), which belonged to the parish of Arendsee. Today, the church belongs to the parish "Am Arendsee" in the parish area Arendsee the church district Stendal in Propst Sprengel Stendal Magdeburg of the Evangelical Church in Central Germany .
Culture and sights
In Genzien there is a three-part stone church , which was probably built at the beginning of the 13th century.
Economy and Infrastructure
Genzien is on the B 190 . Genzien station was on the Salzwedel – Geestgottberg railway line, which was closed in 2004 .
