Kleinau is a town and part of the town of Arendsee (Altmark) in the Altmarkkreis Salzwedel in Saxony-Anhalt .
geography
Kleinau is located in the middle of the Altmark , about ten kilometers south of Arendsee (Altmark) , where the B 190 is the next trunk road. The district of Kleinau is partly made up of pine forests and stretches in sections in a lowland area . The landscape around Kleinau is the location of numerous wet meadows . Economic life is shaped by the cultivation of lettuce and cabbage fields in the "Agrofarm Kleinau".

The districts of Kleinau, Dessau and Lohne belong to the village of Kleinau .
Furthermore, the desolation of the former place Buckau lies in the district of Kleinau. The village was destroyed in the Thirty Years War .
history
The first documentary mention of Kleinau comes from 1274, as Cleinow . In the Landbuch der Mark Brandenburg from 1375 Kleinau is listed as Cleinow , Clenow and Clynow .
Incorporations
On July 1, 1950, the Dessau community was incorporated into the Gardelegen district and on February 1, 1974, the Lohne community from the Gardelegen district was incorporated into Kleinau.
On May 18, 2009, the municipality council of Kleinau decided by means of an area change agreement that the municipality of Kleinau should be incorporated into the town of Arendsee (Altmark). This contract was approved by the county as the lower local supervisory authority and came into effect on January 1, 2010.
After incorporation of the previously independent community of Kleinau, Kleinau, Dessau and Lohne become districts of the city of Arendsee (Altmark). The local constitution was introduced for the incorporated municipality in accordance with §§ 86 ff. Municipality code of Saxony-Anhalt . The incorporated community of Kleinau and future districts of Kleinau, Dessau and Lohne became the locality of the receiving city of Arendsee (Altmark). A local council with nine members, including the local mayor, was formed in the incorporated municipality and now the village of Kleinau.

The Protestant church and parish Kleinau belong to the parish area Kleinau the church district Stendal in Propst Sprengel Stendal Magdeburg of the Evangelical Church in Central Germany .
In 1903 the parish Kleinau near Heiligenfelde belonged to the parishes of Kleinau and Lohne.

Culture and sights
- The Protestant village church of Kleinau is a stone church from the 12th century and was dedicated to St. Jakobus .
- On the southern side of the village street near the western entrance to the village there is a stone cross . In a legend it is reported that the cross was placed in atonement for an assassination of a French general.
- There is a school museum in the school .
- In the district of Lohne, in addition to a Bronze Age burial ground , the extremely old oak population should also be mentioned. In terms of cultural history, a Landwehr in Dessau is located on the road to Heiligenfelde and is one of the best preserved fortresses of this type in the Altmark.
