Schernikau is a district of the town of Arendsee (Altmark) and the village of Vissum in the Altmarkkreis Salzwedel in Saxony-Anhalt .

geography

The Altmark Kirchdorf Schernikau located eight kilometers southwest of Arendsee (Altmark) and 16 kilometers east of the county town of Salzwedel. The Rademiner Fleetgraben flows to the south and east of the street village and flows into the Flötgraben.

history

The first documented mention of Schernikau is probably the mention of Scernekow on May 17, 1352 when Heinrich von Jetze left lifts from a village called Kussim to the Georgs Hospital in Salzwedel . The first mention mentioned by Wilhelm Zahn in 1292 refers to Schernikau in the Stendal district.

In the Landbuch der Mark Brandenburg of 1375 the Schernikau is listed as Scernekow . The place consisted of 24 Hufen , those of the Knesebeck and von Wustrow had income here.

Incorporations

On July 1, 1950, the municipality Schernikau was from the district Osterburg in Salzwedel reclassified. On March 15, 1974 Schernikau was incorporated into the municipality of Vissum.

The Protestant parish of Schernikau belonged to the mater combinata (combined mother church) Schernikau, which was originally independent and from 1816 belonged to the parish of Binde. Today the parish belongs to the parish Fleetmark-Jeetze of the parish of Salzwedel in the Provostspengel Stendal-Magdeburg of the Evangelical Church in Central Germany .
