Location of Gestien in Saxony-Anhalt

Gestien is a district of the locality and unitary community of the city of Arendsee (Altmark) in the Altmarkkreis Salzwedel in Saxony-Anhalt .

geography

The Altmark village Gestien located south of Lake Arendsee and 25 kilometers east of the county town Salzwedel on the B190 . To the east is the 65 meter high vineyard , to the south the 47 meter “Ceres Berg” and the forest area “Gestiener Holz”.

history

The original shape of a round village can be seen on old maps . Gestien was first mentioned in a document on August 2, 1253, when Margrave Otto “united the village of Wendisch Gutzin with the Arendsee monastery for his salvation”. In the Landbuch der Mark Brandenburg from 1375 the place is listed as Gustin .

From the middle of the 19th century it is reported: “Very poor sandy soil and acidic meadows. The community is one of the poorest in the district. "

There used to be two brickworks to the west of the village. In the 20th century there was still a windmill to the west of the village on the north-western edge of the forest. The brickworks and windmill to the west belonged to Zühlen .

On July 1, 1950, the Gestien community from the Osterburg district was incorporated into the Genzien community . On December 1, 1973 Gestien was incorporated into the town of Arendsee (Altmark), so the Gestien part came to Arendsee.
