Location of Püggen in Saxony-Anhalt

Püggen is a district of the municipality of Kuhfelde in the Altmarkkreis Salzwedel in Saxony-Anhalt .

Geography and traffic

The Altmark village of Püggen is located directly on the federal highway 248 between Salzwedel and Wolfsburg , around 15 kilometers southwest of the district town of Salzwedel. To the east is the 33 meter high Teufelsberg. To the east, the Püggen border ditch flows over the Hartau into the Jeetze . The nearby Oebisfelde – Salzwedel railway line has been closed.

history

In 1309 Hynricus de Puͤckene is mentioned in Salzwedel.

In the Landbuch der Mark Brandenburg from 1375 the place is listed as Puͤtken . Those from the Knesebeck had income and rights here, some of which were lent on. Since 1425 and 1426, the village was in the possession of the von der Schulenburg, later it was divided between the von dem Knesebeck zu Tylsen and the von der Schulenburg.

The megalithic stone graves near Püggen were destroyed in the 19th century.

The deserted estate is about one kilometer northwest of Püggen on the way from Groß Bierstedt to Hohenlangenbeck, southeast on the Heidberg at a place where many roads converge. The field designation "the farms" denotes properties that show the round structure of the old Wendish settlement. An area in the northwest of the district of Püggen is now called "Mark Upsitz".

In 1955 the first type III agricultural production cooperative, the LPG “Morgenrot”, was founded.

Until June 30, 2009, Püggen was the smallest municipality in Saxony-Anhalt with 50 inhabitants (December 31, 2007) .

Incorporations

On 25 July 1952, the municipality Püggen was from the district Salzwedel in Salzwedel reclassified. On July 1, 1994, the community came to the Altmarkkreis Salzwedel. The municipal councils of the municipalities of Kuhfelde (on December 2, 2008), Siedenlangenbeck (on December 8, 2008), Valfitz (on December 10, 2008) and Püggen (on December 2, 2008) decided that their municipalities should to be united in a new community called Kuhfelde . This contract was approved by the county as the lower local supervisory authority and came into effect on July 1, 2009.
