from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

The megalithic graves near Püggen were several megalithic tombs of the Neolithic deep-engraved ceramic culture near Püggen , a district of Kuhfelde in the Altmark district of Salzwedel , Saxony-Anhalt . All were destroyed in the 19th century.

location

At least two graves were located in the area of the deserted Uebbesitz on the border between Püggen and Groß Bierstedt on the Heidberg. All that is known about several other graves is that they were located in the area of Püggen.

Research history

The facilities were documented for the first time in the 1830s by Johann Friedrich Danneil , although he only published a more detailed description of one grave. Several other graves of unknown numbers were already destroyed at that time. When the large stone graves of the Altmark were taken up again in the 1890s , Eduard Krause and Otto Schoetensack discovered that the two graves on the Heidberg had been completely removed in the course of the separation in the 1850s .

description

When he was taken, Danneil could only describe one grave on Heidberg in more detail. This had a stone enclosure with a length of 12 m and a width of 10 m. Several of the surrounding stones, especially the guard stones at the corners, were of enormous size. The burial chamber had four cap stones and should therefore be referred to as a large dolmen or passage grave . No further information is available about the second grave on Heidberg or the other large stone graves near Püggen.
