Wöpel is a district of the municipality of Kuhfelde in the Altmarkkreis Salzwedel in Saxony-Anhalt .

geography

The Altmark village of Wöpel, a dead end village with a church, is located just under three kilometers southwest of Kuhfelde and 11 kilometers south of the district town of Salzwedel . To the west is the 42 meter high Windmühlenberg. In the south the Neugraben (Hainholzgraben) flows to the Jeetze .

history

In 1311 Greyte, monialis dicte de wopelt was mentioned in Salzwedel.

The first documented mention as Wopelde comes from the year 1348, when Margrave Ludwig left the von Schulenburgs Beden from various villages. In the Landbuch der Mark Brandenburg from 1375 the place is listed as Wuͤpelte . The von der Schulenburg owned property here, which was also loaned out.

In 1818 a windmill was mentioned, which today still exists in a converted form.

During the land reform in 1946, 48.7 hectares were expropriated. In 1948 there were 10 buyers, including 5 new settlers.

In 1975 the Wöpel dairy cattle facility was built, which has since been modernized and in which 700 cows and 150 young cattle are kept. There has been a biogas plant since 2011.

The nearby Oebisfelde – Salzwedel railway line was shut down in 2002.

Incorporations

On July 1, 1950, the municipality of Wöpel from the district of Salzwedel was incorporated into the municipality of Siedenlangenbeck . On July 1, 2009, the municipality of Siedenlangenbeck merged with other municipalities to form the new municipality of Kuhfelde, so that the district of Wöpel became part of the municipality of Kuhfelde.

The Protestant Christians from Wöpel belong to the Protestant parish of Kuhfelde, which used to belong to the parish of Kuhfelde. Today the parish belongs to the parish Kuhfelde in the parish of Salzwedel – St. Katharinen of the parish of Salzwedel in the provost parish Stendal-Magdeburg of the Evangelical Church in Central Germany .
