Steven James "Steve" Pemberton (born September 1, 1967 in Blackburn ) is a British actor, comedian and author.

life and career

Steve Pemberton began his acting career at Fringe Theaters . While studying theater at Bretton Hall College , he met Reece Shearsmith , Mark Gatiss and Jeremy Dyson . From 1995 the four men appeared together as The League of Gentlemen , two years later they were heard for the first time on the radio on BBC Radio 4 . In 1999 the comedian group received their eponymous BBC television series , through which they became known to a wide audience. The series, in which Pemberton also participated as a screenwriter, won several television awards. The League of Gentlemen ran until 2002, but then a movie was released in 2005 and a new edition with three episodes for Christmas 2017.

In the 2000s, Pemberton took on minor roles in some movies, for example as Mr. Prosser in the science fiction film adaptation The Hitchhiker's Guide to the Galaxy (2005) and as vicar in the opening scene of Mr. Bean's vacation . Mostly Pemberton appears on British television, for example, between 2009 and 2013 he was one of the main characters in the Whitechapel crime series . With Reece Shearsmith, his colleague from The League of Gentlemen , he played the lead role in the horror sitcom Psychoville from 2009 to 2011 . The two also wrote the scripts for the series. Since 2014, Pemberton and Shearsmith have been working together on the television series Inside No. 9 , again in the roles of leading actor and screenwriter. For the series, Pemberton received a British Academy Film Award for Best Actor in a Comedy Program in 2019 .

Pemberton lives in north London with his partner Alison, they have three children.
