Catherine Cawood is a West Yorkshire police officer who is still dealing with her daughter Becky's rape suicide eight years ago. She lives with her former alcoholic and heroin addict, Clare, and together they try to raise their grandson, Ryan, who was the product of her daughter's rape. Neither her divorced husband nor their adult son Daniel from that marriage wants anything to do with Ryan.
Now she has to discover that Tommy Lee Royce, rapist of her daughter and father of her grandson, has been released from prison. Catherine resolves to get the man who stole her daughter and her grandson's mother back to prison once and for all, no matter what the cost. At the same time, she does not yet know that he is involved in criminal activities again.
