Location of Schieben in Saxony-Anhalt

Schieben is a district of the municipality of Kuhfelde in the Altmarkkreis Salzwedel in Saxony-Anhalt .

geography

The Altmark street village of Schieben is two kilometers southeast of Kuhfelde and eight kilometers south of the district town of Salzwedel . In the north flows the salt ditch, which flows over the Purnitz into the Jeetze .

history

Schieben was originally a horseshoe-shaped round square village .

In 1375, Schieben was first mentioned as Schiben in the Landbuch of the Mark Brandenburg . It was owned by the Dambeck Monastery . From 1542 to 1644 it was in the possession of the von der Schulenburg . From 1645 to 1945 the village belonged to the Joachimsthal school directorate, later the Dambeck school authority.

Desert researchers report a rampart near Schieben and refer to a small piece of land called "the Borgwall", which is half a kilometer southwest of the village and is cut through by the road to Valfitz. No traces of fortifications can be seen from the castle wall, a low hill tapering to the southwest.

Incorporations

On July 1, 1950, the community of Schieben from the Salzwedel district was incorporated into the Valfitz community. On July 1, 2009, the Valfitz municipality merged with other municipalities to form the Kuhfelde municipality. This brought the district of Schieben to Kuhfelde.
