The Purnitz , formerly known as Small Jeetze called, is a watercourse third order in the river system in the Jeetze in Altmarkkreis Salzwedel . It rises north of the Drömling , south of the town of Klötze in the southwest Altmark in the north of Saxony-Anhalt . From there it runs north through the town of Klötze, taking in the tributaries of the Salzgraben , Baarser Mühlengraben and Landgraben , to flow into the Jeetze southeast of Dambeck and northwest of Maxdorf , districts of the district town of Salzwedel . The Purnitz drains the Great Break between Apenburg and Siedentramm . Here it flows only a few meters away from the tributary of the Milde , the Lower Milde , which flows here to the east. The name of the river is of Slavic origin.

The main fish species in the river include carp , tench and roach .

A kindergarten and a primary school in Klötze are named after the river.
