history

Muldenstein in front of the church

In 1247 a Helmvico de malestorp was mentioned in a document issued by Werbellin about the town of Salzwedel.

The Lords of Mahlsdorf were thus among the founders of the Neustadt of Salzwedel in 1247. It is also speculated that this family founded the present-day district of Berlin , Berlin-Mahlsdorf , in the course of the eastern colonization .

A year later, a Helmwicus de Malestorp appeared as a witness in a certificate issued in Salzwedel.

The first written mention of Mahlsdorf as Malstorp comes from the year 1279 , when Otto and Albrecht Margraves of Brandenburg donated ten wispel of annual income from the village to the nunnery in Diesdorf , plus half the bailiwick over three courtyards and 6 kossats . In 1335 it is called: villa malstorppe .

In the Landbuch der Mark Brandenburg from 1375 the place is listed as Malestorp and Molestorp . Further mentions are: 1541 Malsdorf , 1585 Dorf Malßdorff , 1608 Mahlstörpf and 1687 Mahlstorff .

Later there were 16 full courtyards on Dorfstrasse. The Braunschweig -Salzwedel trade route ran through the town . In the middle of the 19th century, the Magdeburg -Salzwedel state road , today's federal road 71 , was relocated through the town.

prehistory

The name suggests a much older history of the place. The word part 'Mal' was also used for early places of worship. Further indications that corroborate the assumption that there was an old cult site at the place where the church stands today are provided by the stones arranged around the church, under which there used to be a hollow stone in the form of a chair, which has unfortunately been stolen in the meantime has been. One can only speculate about the age of the place of worship.

Incorporations

The community of Maxdorf was incorporated into Mahlsdorf on July 1, 1950 from the Salzwedel district . On July 25, 1952, Mahlsdorf came to the Salzwedel district . Stappenbeck belonged together with its district Buchwitz from January 1, 1974 to April 30, 1990 as a district of Mahlsdorf. On July 1, 1994 the municipality of Mahlsdorf was assigned to the Altmarkkreis Salzwedel.

The municipality of Mahlsdorf was finally incorporated into Salzwedel on January 1, 2003. At the same time, the village of Mahlsdorf was created within the Hanseatic city of Salzwedel with the districts of Mahlsdorf and Maxdorf.
