history

The church in Rokenthin is mentioned in 1315 . In 1360, income in the dorpe tho Rokentyn was sold to von der Schulenburg by Werner von Dreynleve . In the Landbuch der Mark Brandenburg from 1375 the place is listed as Rokentin and Robentin . Other mentions were 1368 de villa Rokentyn , 1541 Rockentin , 1687 Rockentien and finally Rockenthin in 1804 .

The original round square village was rebuilt in a major way after the fire in 1854.

During the land reform in 1945, the following were determined: 35 properties under 100 hectares with a total of 383 hectares of land, one property owned by the church with 2 hectares and one parish with 2 hectares.

prehistory

In 1751 there are reports of many burial mounds in front of Bombek, Rokkenthin, Hestet, Cheine and Klein Wiebelitz . But as early as 1842 the burial mounds in front of Hestedt and Rockenthin were destroyed, as Samuel Christoph Wagener wrote in his handbook of the most excellent antiquities from pagan times discovered in Germany .

In 2018, the excavation camp of the young archaeologists of the Altmark took place near Rockentin, because a settlement here about 1800 years ago, in the younger imperial period , was suspected. Ceramic shards with comb decoration and scroll wheel patterns typical of the imperial era were recovered.

Incorporations

On July 1, 1950, the municipality of Rockenthin from the district of Salzwedel was incorporated into the municipality of Andorf . On May 1, 1992 Andorf was incorporated into the municipality of Henningen. With the incorporation of Henningen into the Hanseatic city of Salzwedel on January 1, 2010, the Rockenthin district came to Salzwedel and the newly built village of Henningen. On July 1, 2019, the Andorf district was formed from the Andorf district and the Grabenstedt district. Rockenthin is in the Andorf district. The Rockenthin district has therefore been part of the Andorf village since July 1, 2019.

Myths

On the one hand, Hanns HF Schmidt recounts the saga Vom Rockenthiner Kirchtum , the top of which fell down and shattered through the singing of two village villages ; on the other hand also the legend The Bell Pond . She tells of a deep pool not far from Rockenthin, on the bottom of which rests a large golden bell that a magician wanted to raise. This legend was handed down by Alfred Pohlmann, who had also collected other legends of the region "from the mouths of the confirmands in the parish in Lagendorf".
