Helsingborg round church

Helsingborg with ramparts 1588

The round church of Helsingborg was one of the round churches in Scandinavia . It was built in Helsingborg , Skåne , in the first half of the 12th century . At the end of the 17th century, it was destroyed together with the entire castle complex.

The name of the church cannot be determined exactly, but according to Rikard Hedvall it was called St. Mikael. Little is known of this former round church. It was located on the site of the later Helsingborg and was probably integrated into their ramparts. This medieval fortification was built in 1150 and demolished in 1680 after the Peace of Roskilde at the behest of King Charles XI of Sweden. Only the Kärnan has survived to this day .
