Runway Overrun Prevention System

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

The Runway Overrun Prevention System ( ROPS ) is a system in Airbus aircraft that is designed to prevent the aircraft from overshooting the end of the runway after landing .

The ROPS uses various parameters (e.g. position, weight and speed of the aircraft as well as wind and outside temperature) to continuously calculate whether the aircraft can still be stopped until the end of the runway. If necessary, it issues warnings to the pilots in order to support them in their decision as to whether to restart or to intensify the braking process.
