Rusisaari is 0.24 square kilometers, the second largest island of the lake Hanhijärvi in the Finnish countryside Savo .

It is located in the Enonkoski municipality , 25 km north of the city of Savonlinna . The island is characterized by its diverse landscape: In the mountainous north, conifers and rocky steep banks predominate, in the south birch forests and other deciduous trees as well as gently sloping banks. Numerous animal species are at home here, notably beavers , American mink and raccoon dogs .

Regarding the meaning of the name Rusisaari , it is said that it was created by exchanging letters from the original name Ruissaari, which means rye island in German and goes back to the rye cultivation that used to be carried out here.
