In German-speaking countries, Russian chocolate is an alcoholic mixed drink. It consists of hot cocoa and, depending on the recipe, a shot of vodka , rum or cognac . Optionally, the drink can be garnished with whipped cream and chocolate sprinkles. The variant with rum is also known as Lumumba .

According to legend, Russian chocolate was invented by a Russian tsar. However, this story is to be regarded as a modern saga , as drinking chocolate was not yet known in Russia at the time of Tsarism .

When and where the drink was actually first created is not known. Because the recipe is limited to the German-speaking area, it is also accepted as the region of origin. The name Russian chocolate is derived from the vodka that is added. In English-speaking countries, there is also a drink known as Russian Hot Chocolate , but it mostly consists of cocoa with various spices without the addition of alcohol.
