Russian state ballet

The Moscow State Theater for Russian Ballet (Russian Московский государственный областной театр "Русский балет") is an internationally successful ballet ensemble from Moscow , which performs outside Russia as the "State Russian Ballet" Moscow.

The ballet was officially founded on March 21, 1981 as "Moscow Ballet" (Russian Московский театр "Русский балет") by Irina Tichomirnowa . In 1989 it was renamed the Moscow State Theater of Russian Ballet. Since then, tours have taken place through Mexico , the USA , France , Germany , Australia , Egypt , the United Arab Emirates , Israel , Sweden , Denmark , Switzerland, Liechtenstein and Austria , among others . In 2014 it was renamed the Moscow State Russian Ballet. The company has its headquarters in Moscow and is officially funded by the Russian Ministry of Culture.

The ballet's repertoire mainly includes the works of Peter Tchaikovsky ( Swan Lake , The Nutcracker , Sleeping Beauty ) and other classical ballet works.

Vyacheslav Gordejew (* 1948) has been the artistic director of the Russian State Ballet since 1984 . His biography also includes activities as artistic director of the Bolshoi Ballet (1995–1997), a professorship at the Russian Academy of Theater Arts and the Russian Academy for Slavic Cultures. He was chairman and jury member of various international ballet competitions and is the official ambassador of the Rudolf Nureyev Foundation. In 2007 he became a member of the Duma of the Moscow Region and took over the deputy chairmanship of the Committee on Education and Culture. Since 2016 director of the Choreographic Faculty of the Russian Academy of Theater, GITIS.

The first dancers were / are Iuliia Zviagina, Mstislav Arefyev, Shiori Fukuda. Irina Ablizowa, Tatiana Bolotowa, Maxim Fomin, Anton Geiker, Dmitri Kotermin and Anna Shcherbakowa.

The Moscow State Russian Ballet has been on tour in German-speaking countries every winter since 1987. The ballet tours without its own orchestra. The ballet music is played over the sound system of the respective theater during the performance. The tours in Germany, Austria and Switzerland are carried out by the Frankfurt concert agency Shooter Promotions.
