Ruth Ryste

Ruth Anlaug Ryste (born July 24, 1932 in Bamble ) is a Norwegian politician of the Arbeiderpartiet (Ap). From 1976 to 1979 she was the social minister of her country.

Political career

Ryste was a member of Bamble's local parliament from 1967 to 1971. In 1973 she worked in the Consumer and Administration Ministry. On January 15, 1976, she was appointed Minister of Social Affairs in the Nordli government. She held the office until October 8, 1979.

After her tenure as minister, she was mainly active in refugee work. From 1979 to 1982 she was director of Norwegian Refugee Aid and then until 1987 director of Statens flyktningssekretariat ( German : Refugee Secretariat of the State ). Between 1988 and 1995 she worked as a special advisor on immigration issues in the local ministry.

From 2007 to 2011 she sat on the city council of Porsgrunn .
