The Rygnestadtunet Open Air Museum is a museum village in Valle , Setesdal in the Norwegian province of Agder . The museum is located near the intersection between roads R 9 and RV 45. Today's Rygnestadtunet open-air museum is part of the Setesdalsmuseet . The museum village has been preserved in the state in which it was abandoned in 1919 and preserved in 1923. It was opened as a museum in 1940. Excavations in the area showed settlement of the place from around 900 AD.

The original courtyard complex consists of the main courtyard building built with wood from 1349/1350, a water mill, a three-storey warehouse from 1590, a barn, stables, a sheepfold, a forge and a sauna - mostly from the 19th century. The complex corresponds to the tradition of the Setesdal , to erect a separate building for each purpose.
