Sámi Artist Group

Sámi Artist Group (founded in 1978 in Máze) is a Norwegian - Sami artist group founded by Hans Ragnar Mathisen. Members of the Mázejoavku: Sámi Dáiddajoavku / Sámi Artists' Group are Aage Gaup (* 1943), Synnøve Persen (* 1950), Josef Halse (* 1951), Keviselie / Hans Ragnar Mathisen (* 1945), Trygve Lund Guttormsen (1933–2012 ), Rannveig Persen (* 1953), Berit Marit Hætta (* 1948) and Britta Marakatt-Labba (* 1951).

Berit Marit Hætta and Maja Dunfjeld initiated the exhibition sámi álb'mut / the sámi people at the Norsk Folkemuseum in Oslo. For the first time, Sami contemporary art and craft was exhibited in Norway. The second important exhibition took place in 1978 in the Galleri Alana in Oslo.

The aim of the Sámi Artist Group is to restore the dignity and pride of the Sami indigenous people . The idea is to create a Sami nation of their own: Sápmi , which includes parts of Norway, Sweden, Finland and Russia. Works by the Sámi Artist Group were shown at documenta 14 . Flags by Synnøve Persen, maps by Ragnar Mathisen and embroidered pictures by Britta Marakatt-Labba were on display.
