The Gasthaus Sächsischer Hof is a hotel, inn and monument in the Rhön community of Dermbach in the Wartburg district in Thuringia . The building is on the corner of Bahnhofstrasse and Marktstrasse on the southern edge of Dermbach's old town.

The main building of the former Sächsischer Hof inn was built in 1623 as a representative two-story half-timbered building. In 1708, the owner at that time was granted a liquor license by Prince Abbot Adalbert von Schleifras . The house, one of the most famous inns in the Wartburg district, was extensively restored as early as 1901 and received a renewed half-timbered floor with carved beams. The St. Peter with key attached to the corner post is the landmark of the house.

Until the beginning of the Second World War , especially in the 1920s and 30s, recreational and sport anglers from Europe and overseas met here to fish for trout in the Felda . The writer Ernest Hemingway is said to have been a prominent guest at the inn in 1931 . Even during the GDR era, the Sächsischer Hof was still a popular place for meetings between people from the region and their relatives and friends from West Germany.

The structural condition of the house was already worrying in the 1990s, and there was also a decline in the number of visitors and holiday guests. The house was closed and because of the immense renovation costs, no investor could be found for the house at first; demolition in installments was threatened. The community finally managed to find a suitable buyer for the building complex through public relations work. In 2009, the general renovation of the building complex began as a Rhön hotel with a side wing used as a nursing home. The reopening of the hotel was scheduled to take place on September 9, 2012, after which the client had previously received a symbolic honorary award from the Wartburg district for the exemplary restoration of the monument. A burst pipe recently caused water damage, which delayed the opening date by several months.

But then the tragedy about the beautiful half-timbered house began. Improper fixtures and fittings, vacancy, decay. For many years a solution was sought in order not to let the historic house completely fall into disrepair. "
