The Saxon Hospital Altscherbitz is a psychiatric and neurological specialist clinic in Altscherbitz , today a district of Schkeuditz .

history

The hospital was founded on July 1, 1876 under the name "Provinzial-Irren-Anstalt Rittergut Alt Scherbitz". It was later renamed the Altscherbitz State Hospital.

As part of the so-called euthanasia during National Socialism , over 1,800 prison inmates were murdered with gas after they were transferred to the Bernburg killing center . As part of the T4 campaign , 210 patients on August 12 and 13, 1941, and a further 223 patients on August 20, 1941, were brought to Altscherbitz from the Tapiau Provincial Sanatorium. On February 14, 1942, 350 (according to other information 348) patients were transported to the Kortau Provincial Sanatorium .

Facility

The house currently counts among other things:

  • 208 beds in ten wards for psychiatric patients with a focus on addiction, acute, social and geriatric psychiatry
  • 68 day clinic places for psychiatric patients at the Schkeuditz, Eilenburg and Markranstädt locations
  • 45 neurological beds with a focus on the stroke unit , acute neurology, pain therapy and multiple sclerosis outpatient department
  • 90 beds for mentally ill offenders
