Altscherbitz is east of the center of Schkeuditz, in the east it borders on the district of Modelwitz.

Furthermore, the district of Altscherbitz lies north of the White Elster and the Leipzig floodplain forest .

The earliest evidence of settlement comes from the early Neolithic , the Bandkeramischen Kultur , and was documented during large-scale archaeological excavations in advance of the expansion of Leipzig / Halle Airport . In addition to a settlement with typical long house floor plans from the time between 5300 and 5000 BC. The well of Altscherbitz was discovered, which dates back to approx. 5100 BC. BC could be dated. In the State Museum of Archeology Chemnitz you can find out about the salvage and uncovering of the well. Finds from the well are also exhibited there.

The first mention of it comes from 1045. The emperor donated three hooves of land to a subordinate Jarmir . In historical documents, different spellings of the estate name appear over the centuries, for example 1322 Scerwiz, 1337 Scherwitz, 1422 Schirwitz, 1425 Czerwicz, 1520 Czerbitz, 1545 Scherwitz, 1745 Scherbitz, 1791 Alt Scherbitz and finally Altscherbitz. The name is probably of Slavic / Sorbian origin. Until 1815, Altscherbitz belonged to the Schkeuditz Office of Merseburg , which had been under Electoral Saxon sovereignty since 1561 and belonged to the secondary school principality of Saxony-Merseburg between 1656/57 and 1738 .

Mill

During the Thirty Years War the estate was completely devastated, but rebuilt in 1655. In 1661, Gundorf, a few kilometers further south-east, came into the possession of a higher judge named J. Fritzsche . This was already the landlord of Scherbitz. He changed the name of the Gundorf monastery to Neuscherbitz, which added the previous old to Scherbitz after the resettlement.

As a result of the resolutions of the Congress of Vienna , Altscherbitz and the western part of the Schkeuditz office were ceded to Prussia in 1815. In the new political order of Prussia, the village was in 1816 the county Merseburg in the administrative district of Merseburg of the Province of Saxony assigned to which he belonged until 1,952th Scherbitz used to be a typical cul-de-sac village . From 1895 the manor was converted into the provincial lunatic asylum Altscherbitz with a total area of 255 hectares and 1163 inhabitants, probably because the settlement of industry had failed from the middle of the 19th century.

The church was built in 1911/12. During the GDR era it fell into disrepair and was used as a furniture store. In 1995 it was restored and a year later the organ was consecrated again. In October 2013 the church was renovated again. In addition to an energetic renovation in the form of inflation insulation, the hand-painted dome ceiling was also given a refresh and the roof was given a new covering.

In 1929 the previously independent rural community was incorporated into Schkeuditz, with which it came to the Leipzig-Land district in the Leipzig district in 1952 , to the Leipziger Land district in 1994 , to the Delitzsch district in 1999 and to the northern Saxony district in 2008.
