Band ceramic fountain Altscherbitz

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

The Bandkeramische Brunnen von Altscherbitz is a well of the Neolithic Bandkeramischen culture discovered in 2005 . More than 7000 years ago, the well supplied several Neolithic settlements in the area around Altscherbitz with water.

The excavation took place in advance of the expansion of Leipzig / Halle Airport . In order to enable a proper excavation, the well was recovered as a 4 m high and 70 ton heavy block using heavy technology and brought to Dresden . There it was excavated from 2008 to 2010 in a hall of the State Office for Archeology in Saxony under laboratory conditions . Numerous unique finds are exhibited in the newly opened State Museum of Archeology in Chemnitz. Wooden nails were used to connect the planks (see also Bandkeramischer Brunnenbau ). These could be dendrochronologically dated using the annual rings .
