The Sälischulhaus in Olten is an important architectural witness of post-war modernism and is a cantonal monument .

The schoolhouse was built for the residential area on the east side of the Olten housing estate, which has been growing rapidly since the middle of the 20th century. The large bifang school building from 1910 was no longer sufficient for the schoolchildren in the numerous new housing estates in this district. That is why the city of Olten built a spacious school complex on the slope above the Friedenskirche from 1963 to 1970. The building follows the concept of the architects Hans Zaugg and Alfons Barth and is one of the outstanding works of the so-called Solothurn School , to which these two belonged.

The facility consists of three structures realized in a wide area, the wing for the primary school, the building for the secondary school and the building for the gym and indoor swimming pool. The building is executed on a concrete frame in steel and glass.

The school building was renovated around 2010 and placed under protection by the Canton of Solothurn and the City of Olten.

After a competition, the city of Olten had a three-part granite sculpture by the Aargau sculptor Paul Agustoni set up on the Schulhausplatz as art in architecture .
