Sænautasel

The rebuilt Kate Sænautasel (manatee hut) is located in Jökuldalsheiði south of Lake Sænautavatn ( Iceland ). The peat yard was built in 1846 and was inhabited for 100 years. Nine families lived there one after the other. In 1992 it was rebuilt. It served as a model for Halldór Laxness in his novel His Own Lord , whose hero Bjartur rides a reindeer through the mighty Jökulsá á Brú river .

An in-house café invites you to take a rest, coffee and local food.
