Søren Glosimodt Mosdal

Søren Glosimodt Mosdal (* 1972) is a Danish comic strip artist and illustrator. He grew up partly in France and currently lives in Copenhagen . He is a member of the illustration studio Overfloden and plays several instruments in the punk-trash band Mok Nok.

Life

Mosdal drew his first comic - 21 pages long - at the age of eight and with Jean-Paul Belmondo as the hero. He later studied art in Copenhagen. Since 1994 he has published in the Danish magazine "Fahrenheit" and in the literary magazine "Zoe". In 1997 he started working with an editor for the magazine, Jacob Ørsted, who has remained its author to this day.

In 1999, Gash appeared , a collection of absurd, satirical, decadent and suggestive stories that, with some delay, also caused a sensation internationally: “Unbelievably convincing vignettes of modern alienation and intellectual isolation in an urban landscape of breathtaking indifference” . In 2001 Feuerwerk was published, the absurd story of a young man zapping around on TV and his dreams of being a pop star or an alien.

Mosdal has lived as a comic artist since 2000 and likes to thematize music, including in the "extraordinary" comic series Rock World about "bad music, beer and toilet paper". The parody shows, among other things, a rock band “The Fucking Chimps” in Rockworld, whose “singer is based on a guy from Saybia, a really bad Danish band” . But his recurring theme is “girls”, says Mosdal, “all of my stories are about girls, or the older comics are about the absence of girls” .

In addition to the publication of his own volumes, comics appear in various anthologies, including a redrawn version of his surreal, intoxicated, wet dream Dog God (as the original Hundegott , 1998).

In 2010, Hank Williams' Lost Highway published a "fast-paced road comic" about driving in a car, while country star Hank Williams died . That night, characters from Williams' songs appear as well as real personalities and myths. “I've been a Hank fan for a long time, and then I found a script about Hank Williams' life by Paul Schrader , the taxi driver guy who never made a movie. I took individual parts from him, but most of all my friend is from Tennessee and lives in Knoxville, where Hank died, as some say. That was my starting point. ” Hank Williams Lost Highway was received positively by the majority: “ A book like a ghost train ride: You can't and don't want to get off ” ., Which “ lives mainly from its narrative ambivalence ” . “If you're a Hank Williams fan, you'll love the many references to Williams' special universe. If you have never heard of the man, get to know a good story. " . The "very successful publication" tells "in a wonderful way of a mythical journey through a snowstorm that turned a singer into a legend" .

Mosdal regularly illustrates in the Danish magazines Berlingske Tidende, Borsen, Kristeligt Dagblad, Magasinet KBH and Gyldendal. Since February 2005 the comic strip channel Zoo has appeared monthly in the Danish lifestyle magazine Euroman. Mosdal / Ørsted also publish in the German comic magazine Moga Mobo and in the Slovenian comic anthology Stripburger.

style

Mosdal draws in “expressionist-looking pictures” and in a “square and angular drawing style”.

In illustrations, Mosdal often tries to introduce something personal, but not too often. His flowing lines become more and more free over the years, "that probably has more to do with my work for magazines and their tight deadlines, which forced me to do so" .

Mosdal himself likes comics v. a. many French like Christophe Blain and Sfar .
