Süchbaatar ( Mongolian Сүхбаатар ) is the capital of the Selenge Aimag in northern Mongolia . It lies on the Orkhon River and forms the border station with Russia on the main line of the Trans-Mongolian Railway .

The city was founded in 1940 and named after the Mongolian revolutionary leader Damdin Süchbaatar .
