The southern smooth dolphin ( Lissodelphis peronii ) is one of the two representatives of the genus Lissodelphis within the dolphins (Delphinidae). It is at home in the open sea of the entire temperate zone of the southern hemisphere. The northernmost occurrence is on the 19th parallel southern latitude.
features
The smooth dolphin differs from all other dolphin species in the complete absence of the fin . Southern smooth dolphins are very slender, up to 3 m long dolphins. Females reach a length of approximately 2.3 m. The maximum weight is around 100 kg. The snout, fins, flanks and belly are white, otherwise this dolphin is black. Calves are gray or spotted.
