Sülfmeister days

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

The Sülfmeistertage is an event that takes place regularly in autumn (late September / early October) in the Hanseatic city of Lüneburg . The term "Sülfmeister" referred to the owners of simmering pans for salt production in the Lüneburg salt works .

In the old salt town of Lüneburg , the Sülfmeistertage was once the city's most important festival, which was first mentioned in 1472 as a Kopefahrt . The city of Lüneburg has celebrated this festival again since 2003; 2017 for the 15th time. The Sülfmeistertage takes place in Lüneburg throughout the city center on the first weekend in October, whereby the festival ends on Sunday with a large parade through the historic old town and the subsequent celebratory burning of the head barrel. In the first games, which have a certain historical reference, it is initially only about the entry into the final, the barrel rolling ("Kopefahrt"). The winner in barrel rolling then provides the new Sülfmeister, who represents the city for one year.

The Salztherme Lüneburg team won the competitions in 2003 and provided Fred I., the first modern Sülfmeister. In 2015, the market feeders won the competition with Leon I. for the sixth time, making them the most successful team to date.

Acting Sülfmeister is Gerd I. from the weekly market deliverer team.

Kope

The kope (a barrel filled with stones) was pulled through the streets by horses at a wild gallop as part of the kope ride .

Today the Kopespiel is also called a "play"; a very large pageant in which people from all social groups took part. Servants, councilors and fools in disguise accompanied the procession, at the end of which the Kopen in front of the saltworks were solemnly burned with music and dance. After that, the festival continued in the streets and in the guild and inns.
