Sərdar Cəlaloğlu

Sərdar Cəlaloğlu (alternative Azerbaijani spelling Särdar Cälaloğlu , actually Sərdar Cəlal oğlu Məmmədov or Särdar Cälal oğlu Mämmädov ; born June 3, 1954 in Babək , Autonomous Republic of Nakhchivan ) is an Azerbaijani leader of the Azerbaijani Democratic Party and the first deputy chairman of the Azerbaijani Democratic Party .

Life

Sərdar Cəlaloğlu comes from a family of teachers. 1970–1977 he successfully graduated from the Azerbaijan Medical University. He is one of the co-founders of the Azerbaijani Popular Front (1988–1990) and was a board member. He is also a co-founder and first chairman of the Azerbaijani Democratic Party. Sərdar Cəlaloğlu is also the founder of two newspapers - "Hürriyyat" and "Haray" - and the magazine "Oyanisch".

He was briefly arrested three times for his political activities. In 2003, after the presidential elections in Azerbaijan, he was arrested again and sentenced to four years and six months' imprisonment, but was subsequently recognized and released as a political prisoner by the Council of Europe. He is married and has four kids.
