The State Administration of Foreign Exchange Chinese , Chinese  国家外汇管理局 , Pinyin Guojia waihui guanli ju , English State Administration of Foreign Exchange (SAFE) , is an agency of the People's Republic of China . She is responsible for the design of rules and regulations for activities in the foreign exchange market as well as for the management of the foreign reserves of the Chinese Central Bank, the Chinese People's Bank ( People's Bank of China ). The current director is Hu Xiaolian .

According to its own information, the institution consists of a main office, 36 administrative offices, 298 central branches and 508 branches. According to Spiegel , one of the offshoots since 1997 has been an initially secret Safe Investment Company , a state fund that is responsible for foreign exchange investments.
