The SBS Broadcasting Group ( S candinavian B roadcasting S ystems ) was one of the leading media companies in Europe based in Luxembourg .

history

TV Norge was founded by Harry Evans Sloan in Norway in 1989 . TV1 was founded and brought in by the US film producer Harry Evans Sloan in 1991. The IPO took place in 1993. The channel SBS6 from Sweden was introduced in 1995.

On August 22, 2005 it was announced that 74% of SBS had been taken over for a total of € 1.7 billion from the two holding companies Permira and Kohlberg Kravis Roberts & Co. (KKR for short). The Telegraaf Media Group, the largest Dutch newspaper publisher, owns 20%, the SBS management holds 6%.

On December 14, 2006, the planned merger with the German ProSiebenSat.1 Media with headquarters in Munich was announced. In the summer of 2007, ProSiebenSat.1 took over 100% of SBS for a total of € 3.3 billion, making it the second largest TV provider in Europe with annual sales of around € 3.1 billion. SBS was thus completely absorbed within ProSiebenSat.1 Media.

Most recently, SBS operated 19 television stations , 20 pay TV stations and 24 radio stations , mainly in Scandinavia and Eastern Europe , and also published two program guides in the Netherlands . In 2003 the group had 2000 employees and in 2006 had sales of € 1,000.6 million.
