The Mallet - Tender locomotives of the type D 2 × 2/2 of the Swiss Central Railway ( SCB ) was from 1897 to 1900 by the SLM in Winterthur built and were still at the SBB into service before they scrapped in 1923 to 1926, aborted were.
history
The twelve mallet locomotives designated as D4T by the SCB are a further development of the Ed 2 × 2/2 built from 1891 to 1893 . The locomotives were given a larger boiler and, in contrast to their predecessors, a tender so that significantly more supplies could be taken with them. Like the Ed 2 × 2/2, the locomotives were mainly used on the Hauenstein line .
The D 2 × 2/2 were able to pull trains weighing 550 t on a 10 ‰ ramp and were able to move goods trains from 180 t to 260 t in weight at Hauenstein. Although the network system brought fuel savings, the locomotives did not prove themselves in the long run. The four engines were maintenance-intensive compared to a normal locomotive with only two engines and also had a greater running resistance.
They were replaced at Hauenstein by the C 4/5 2701-2732 with a four-cylinder compound engine, which was procured in 1904 .
