The Sportclub Frem Wien is a former Austrian football club , which played three seasons in the second highest division from 1928 to 1931.

history

The club was founded in 1908 under the name Vindobona , but changed its name to SC Frem as early as 1910 when the Danish club Frem Copenhagen was able to convince in a Vienna guest game against the Vienna AC . In the early years of the club, Gustav Chrenka , Karl Heinlein and Karl Dürschmied brought out some players who later were part of the WAC's championship team and were used in the national team. The club was active in the lower leagues of the Vienna Football Association and had to stop playing in 1916 due to the war.

After the end of the war, Frem went back into the championship and was able to advance to the third level in 1921. After the introduction of professional football in 1924, the club initially remained active in the amateur field, but decided the following year to acquire its own sports field with the Union 21-Platz in Stadlau and to switch to the professional championship. There he was included in the newly formed third division. However, this league could not meet the expectations and was characterized by low attendance and low income opportunities for the players. The number of participating teams was gradually reduced by mergers and transfers to amateur football, and after three years this division was dissolved in 1928, and the remaining three teams - including SC Frem - were assigned to the second division.

There the club played in the next three years with moderate success, the best result was a seventh place. In 1931 the sports field was sold again and SC Frem merged with the soccer section of the Vienna Cricket and Football Club . The combined team initially appeared under the name "SC Cricket-Frem", but in February 1933 it was decided to align the name of the football team with that of the entire club, and the name "Frem" disappeared from Viennese football.
