history

The SC Urania von 1931 eV was founded by 7 former members of the insolvent (economic crisis & sports field construction) SC Unitas from 1902. These were Alex Schellenberg, Hans Dück, Gustav Voigtländer, Otto Franck, Artur Schmidt, Oscar Dehmelt, Emil Scholz. The name Urania was chosen, referring to the 'U' in the club's coat of arms, the blue-green colors were also adopted.

During the war, Willi Wagenknecht in particular succeeded in “keeping” the club, there was only a ten-day interruption in handball games due to the curfew. After the end of the war, Albert Puberitz took over provisional management of the association until the first general assembly. After the war, the club was rebuilt. The three successful sports - soccer, handball and athletics - from the early years were still part of the club and Hamburg's sport. In the meantime, the club has also dedicated itself to new sports such as table tennis, senior sports and children's gymnastics .

At the beginning of the 1950s, the female handball players were most successful in the club. The team was able to bring the German field handball title to Barmbek-Nord in 1953 . Later it was mainly the footballers that attracted attention. The kickers managed to qualify for the DFB Cup twice . While in 1976 the Hamburg local rivals FC St. Pauli ended up at 1: 6 in the first round , the Schützenhof team achieved two wins in 1981 against VfL Hamm / Sieg (6: 4 after extra time) and against the amateurs of 1. FC Kaiserslautern (3: 1), before they lost 3: 1 to Göttingen 05 in the third round . At the beginning of the 21st century, the table tennis players came to the fore: The first women's team played for several years in the third-rate Regionalliga Nord.

For several years the table tennis department has formed the TTSG Urania-Bramfeld together with the Bramfelder SV . In the 2019/20 season, this consists of ten men's, three women's and one student team. The first women's team plays in the Oberliga Nordost, while the first men's team plays a division lower in the Association's Oberliga Nord.
