Sociedad Deportiva Lemona was a Spanish football club from Lemoa in the province of Bizkaia in the Basque Country . The association was founded in 1923 and was disbanded in 2012 due to financial problems.

history

Sociedad Deportiva Lemona was founded in 1923. Although the association came from a small town with only about 3000 inhabitants, it managed to win a good sponsor with the company Cementos Lemona , which was probably also due to the fact that the company also has a position in Lemoa. That is why the club was nicknamed Cementeros . Despite the name change of the place from Lemona to Lemoa , which is the Basque name, the association kept the old place name in the association name, which was also due to its connection to Cementeros Lemona .

In 1977, the club made it to the Tercera División for the first time , having previously only played in regional leagues. In 1985 he was relegated, but rose again directly and even made it to the Segunda División B for the first time in the 1987/88 season .

Lemona was able to hold on to the league for 12 years and even managed to qualify for the playoffs for Segunda División B in 1997 , but failed there at Sporting Gijón B , Xerez CD and Atlético Gramenet .

After relegation to the Tercera División in 1999 , the club failed each time in the playoffs on promotion until it managed to get promoted again in 2004. After that, the club was able to achieve good placements and even made it into the promotion playoffs again. In the 2011/2012 season, the club was relegated, but things got worse because the club had to disband on July 7, 2012 due to financial difficulties.
