Sustainable Energy for All

Sustainable Energy for All (SE4ALL. Dt Sustainable Energy for All ) is a global initiative of the UN Secretary General , Ban Ki-moon that the goal is to improve access to energy supply, energy efficiency increase and the share of renewable energies in the to increase the global energy mix . The initiative was founded as part of the International Year of Sustainable Energy for All by a resolution of the UN General Assembly in December 2010.

With resolution 65/151 of the UN General Assembly, which was passed on December 20, 2010, the year 2012 was named the International Year of Sustainable Energy for All. This was intended to highlight the importance of energy supply for economic development and global warming . In addition, it was recognized in this way that energy plays an essential role on the way to achieving the Millennium Development Goals - which themselves are not related to energy supply.

Ban Ki-moon made sustainable energy one of his five priorities during his second term. In June 2009 he founded the Advisory Group to the Secretary General for Energy and Climate Change (AGECC), which published its first report on April 28, 2010. The recommendations of this report form the basis for the establishment of the Sustainable Energy for All initiative in 2011.

The Sustainable Energy for All initiative aims to guide private and public decision-makers to jointly achieve three goals by 2030:

  • Providing access to modern energy supplies for everyone
  • Doubling the rate of improvement in energy efficiency
  • Doubling the share of renewable energies in the energy mix
