In 1948 SG Franconia reached the quarter-finals of the Thuringian soccer championship, where they lost 1: 2 to SG Sömmerda . In the 1948/49 season, the Franks played in the Thuringian national class , which at that time was one of the top five divisions in the Soviet occupation zone . When the national class was dissolved in 1952 due to the abolition of the GDR countries, the Wurzbacher footballers, who had played as the Tractor Wurzbach company sports club since September 1, 1950, joined the third-class district league Gera . There they rose after the 1952/53 season in the district class and from there in 1955 in the district league Lobenstein .

In the same season, the soccer team of BSG Aufbau Wurzbach achieved promotion to the district class and in 1962 made it to the district league for one season. In 1965, BSG Aufbau, like BSG tractors before, descended into the district league.

Also in 1965, the BSG Traktor Wurzbach was transformed into an independent sports association, took the name of the post-war period again and in future appeared again as SG Franken Wurzbach. The SG managed to return to the district class in 1967 with their soccer team, from which they rose again to the district league in 1976. There she played for a season in 1976/77 before relegating back to the district class. SG Franconia was represented in this fourth division until 1985, after which it was again relegated to the district league, from which there was no return until the end of the GDR football league system in 1990.

After the political change in 1989/90 , it was again possible to form registered associations , which among other things opened up access to public funding. SG Franken took advantage of this opportunity and decided to convert it into a registered association (eV). While football, table tennis, weight training and gymnastics were initially offered, only the football and table tennis departments remained. In both sports, the SG Franconia has not yet exceeded the district level.
