SG Jänschwalde

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

The association Sportgemeinschaft Jänschwalde e. V. , SG Jänschwalde for short, is a sports club in the southeast Brandenburg municipality of Jänschwalde . His sports offer includes football, table tennis and billiards.

Structural development

The club has its origins in a provisional sports community founded on November 1, 1948, just like many such SG emerged after the old sports clubs were dissolved after the Second World War. Football, table tennis and billiards were played in the SG from the very beginning. According to the system of company sports associations introduced around 1949 for the Jänschwalder sports association, there was no sponsoring company in the town of almost 2,000 inhabitantsso that the sports community, atypical in GDR sport, retained its original status. It was not until June 1960, after a three-year construction period, that the municipality made a sports field available that met the demands of the sports community, and ten years later a complex sports home was completed. In the GDR era, the SG Jänschwalde was one of the most powerful state sports associations in the Guben district . After German reunification, the sports community gave itself a new structure as a civil association. For over 34 years, from 1960 to 1994, responsibility for the sports community lay in the hands of its chairman Günter Strafe.

Development of the sport of football

The 1st men's team of SG Jänschwalde began playing in the 3rd district class Cottbus-Land in 1949. By 1963, the team made it into the fourth-class district class Cottbus. After that, the Jänschwalder always commuted between district and district class. SG Jänschwalde had their greatest success in 1973 when they won the district soccer cup. She thus qualified for participation in the GDR-wide FDGB Cup competition 1973/74. There she met the second division team, activist Schwarze Pump, as a fifth-rate district division team and only lost 3: 4 after a tough fight.

From 1992 on, the SG Jänschwalde played first in the district league, later in the 1st district class of the Brandenburg football district Niederlausitz (since 2008 10th league). In addition to two men's teams, there is also a B youth team and an old men's team. As from the beginning, football operations are maintained by volunteers.

Sports facility

The municipal owned sports field Jänschwalde is located on the southern border of the municipal area. It consists of a simple grass pitch and has space for 1000 spectators, 100 seats are available. During the cup game against activist Schwarze Pump in 1973, the current attendance record was set with 1000 spectators (as of 2008).
