SH3 domain

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

An SH3 domain is a protein domain that mediates specific protein interactions. The abbreviation SH3 stands for Src-homology 3 (derived from the protein kinase c-Src , in which the domain was described for the first time; see SH2 domain ). The region is approx. 60 amino acids long and recognizes in particular proline- rich amino acid motifs (PXXP).

SH3 domains are involved in many protein complexes , especially in scaffold proteins and kinases in signal transduction processes .
