The SIPA S.90 was a light sport and touring aircraft produced by the French manufacturer Société industrial pour l'aéronautique .
History and construction
The SIPA S.90 was developed by Yves Gardan for the Société industrial pour l'aéronautique (SIPA) on the occasion of a competition of the French government for a light sport aircraft to be used by the French aero clubs. The prototype first flew on May 15, 1947. The design won the competition. The aircraft was designed as a low wing aircraft with a fixed tail wheel landing gear and two seats next to each other. The first four machines were powered by a 75 hp (56 kW) Mathis G4F engine.
One hundred copies were ordered by the French government for the aero clubs. These specimens were powered by the 75 HP (56 kW) Minie -4DC engine and were designated as SIPA S.901 . The first of these aircraft made available made its maiden flight on June 25, 1948. Various engines were later installed in the S.901, resulting in new model numbers. Later, nine machines were covered with plywood instead of the usual fabric covering.
